MARINE DEBRIS & ME PLASTIC POLLUTION CAMP
What is marine debris? What can we do about plastic pollution? How do we make clean beaches and healthy ecosystems a community priority?
Marine Debris & Me is an intensive three to five day summer program that brings hands-on science to Bahamian youth and activates students to act as empowered change agents in their local communities. Students leave with an understanding of marine debris as a global issue and contribute to real time research that leads to practical solutions to pollution-- from lifestyle changes to art and activism.
Throughout the camp, students learn about the rise of the plastics industry and the effect of marine debris on the global marine environment and human health. They participate in the Beach Plastic Project citizen science project to collect data on marine debris on Bahamian beaches, experience beach cleanups, and learn how to repurpose plastics and use art and creativity as a tool for activism.
